Golden Bay is renowned for it's natural beauty and laid-back lifestyle.  With two national parks on its doorstep and dozens of safe swimming beaches, it's an ideal location for a holiday or weekend getaway.

Local attractions include:

  • National Parks:

    • Kahurangi National Park encompasses the North-West corner of the South Island, and includes walks such as the Heaphy Track.

    • Abel Tasman National Park is known for its beautiful golden sandy beaches and magical coastal walks.  This park includes Totaranui and Awaroa beaches, both accessible by road from Golden Bay.

  • Beaches - from the wild west-coast Wharariki beach with its towering dunes and archway islands, to the boating and swimming friendly golden sands of Tata Beach.

  • Arts and Crafts - Golden Bay is full of many crafty people, including nearby Anathoth Pottery, Living Light Candles, and Paul Winspear Pottery.

  • Cafes, bars and restaurants - among the many cafes and bars is the iconic Mussel Inn, which was recently rated on the Lonely Planet Blue List for it's micro-brewery. And it's only 5 minutes down the road!

  • Waikoropupu Springs - the largest fresh water spring in the Southern hemisphere.

  • Fishing - catch them wild or guarantee a good catch at the Salmon Farm

  • Mountain Biking - including the well known Rameka Track

  • Kayaking - a great way to enjoy the local coastline. You can hire kayaks here.
